The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) at National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) has once again achieved outstanding results in the 114th year of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Research Project Grant for University Students. A total of nine students were awarded grants, with each project receiving funding between NT$48,000 and NT$56,720. These results fully demonstrate the department’s research capabilities and the fruitful collaboration between faculty and students in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning, privacy protection and multimedia applications.

Each of the awarded proposals is an extension of a student’s undergraduate capstone project—many of which were recognized with Excellence or Honorable Mention awards during this year’s project exhibition. The selected topics span a wide spectrum of emerging technologies, such as converting video into audiobooks using AI, a multi-stage pipeline for simulating and evaluating boxing actions, applications of adversarial examples in explainable AI, a 3D skeletal analysis system for in-home rehabilitation, and emotional speech synthesis using diffusion models. These works highlight the students’ strong sense of problem awareness, creativity, and initiative in bridging theory with practical application to explore solutions that respond to both social and industry needs.
