The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) at National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) has seen steady growth since its establishment. The department welcomed its first master’s students in 1995, followed by the launch of the bachelor’s program in 1997, the extensive master’s program in 2000, and the doctoral program in 2001. With an expanding student body and dedicated faculty, we strive to build a department that grows stronger every day. In the short term, the department is focused on integrating theoretical foundations with practical applications to create a high-quality learning environment and cultivate top-tier research and development talent for the information industry. In the mid to long term, CSIE aims to foster a hands-on, project-based educational setting that empowers students to solve real-world problems and positions the department as a driving force for the development of the information industry in Eastern Taiwan.
NDHU CSIE is a youthful and vibrant department known for its lively academic atmosphere and advanced teaching facilities. We are committed to fostering a close-knit academic community where faculty and students learn, grow, and support one another like family. In a classroom, our faculty are recognised for their deep passion and professionalism, while students are dedicated to mastering their academic and professional subjects. Beyond academics, these relationships flourish in a spirit of mentorship and friendship, as everyone works together to cultivate this youthful academic sanctuary. To study in NDHU CSIE is to join a truly welcoming and supportive academic family.
To enhance students’ professional readiness, the department places strong emphasis on integrating academic knowledge with practical application. In line with NDHU’s initiative to foster high-tech industry development in Eastern Taiwan, CSIE encourages students to engage in hands-on projects during winter and summer breaks, as well as through structured academic opportunities. A key component is the mandatory Undergraduate Project for third-year students—a year-long capstone experience where students join research labs, work alongside faculty advisors and graduate students, and carry out applied research. The project culminates in a formal presentation and exhibition of their work during the CSIE Undergraduate Project Exhibition at the end of the junior year.
Our curriculum emphasizes the development of independent thinking and creative problem-solving. NDHU’s open learning environment fosters a broad-minded and free academic culture. CSIE’s computer labs are equipped with individual workstations and multimedia interactive systems, supporting a one-to-one learning environment. A robust campus network connects classrooms, offices, and student housing, providing an immersive digital learning experience. This cutting-edge infrastructure ensures students receive a high-value education that empowers them for the future.
