【題 目】
Network Steganography and Network Steganalysis

【摘 要】
Internet has become part of our everyday life. The endless usage of computer networks makes network security the highest priority in communications. Network steganography is to transmit secret data within user’s normal data transmission without being detected by third parties, which is also called covert channels. Covert channels via network protocols and packets have become a new challenge issue for network security. The huge amount of data transmitted over Internet by using TCP/IP protocols makes it ideal as a carrier in steganography. Vulnerability in many protocols and non-determinism in wireless environment also make covert channels possible. Attacks based on covert channels become a potential threat to the Internet. This brings up an important topic of steganalysis or a process of investigation to determine the presence of a steganographic payload. In this talk, I will first briefly review covert channels in network protocols, then present our proposed PRM (Phase-Space Reconstruction Method) to detect covert channels in TCP ISNs, which outperforms the state-of-the-art SVM (Support Vector Machine) method.

【講員簡介】
Dr. Hong Zhao received her Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology, New Jersey US. She is a tenured Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Fairleigh Dickinson University, US. Dr. Zhao serves an Associate Editor of the Journal on Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing, and Editor of the Journal of Computing and Information Technology. Professor Zhao also serves as the Chair of the IEEE North Jersey Computer Society Chapter.

Her current research focuses on various aspects of broadband communications and computer security including Network Traffic/Performance/Security Analysis and Modeling, and Hardware Trojan detection. The research results were published at IEEE prestigious journals and conferences including IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting, IEE Proceedings on Communications.

Dr. Zhao has served as a TPC member, session chair for many IEEE conferences including IEEE WCNC, GLOBECOM, VTC, WTS, and Sarnoff. She has also severed as a technical paper reviewer and book reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, Signal Processing, Wireless Communications, Broadcasting, Networking, System Man and Cybernetics, and book publisher John Wiley & Sons.
